Communications of the ACM January 2009

I've been a member of the ACM for longer than I care to remember. I get "Communications of the ACM" and rarely read it - it is a very dull journal. But to be fair, I should say "was a very dull journal". It has recently been revamped and is greatly improved. The latest edition, January 2009, has a number of interesting articles. I recommend John Mashey's "The Long Road to 64-bits" to anyone with a passing interest in computer systems architecture and it should be compulsory reading for anyone building hardware or software systems. Legacy!
